The Mighty Reapers
The Mighty Reapers
Get ready for a genuine soul shakedown party when The Mighty Reapers take the stage at the Marrickville Bowlo to kick off the Australia Day long weekend on Friday 26 January. It's an all star lineup with Continental Robert Susz on vocals and harp, Dave Brewer (direct from Perth) on guitar, Clayton Doley on organ, Antero Ceschin on drums and special guest Ray Beadle on bass as well as singing a number of his own tunes and playing guitar whilst Dave swaps to bass. It's a rare opportunity to hear this wonderful group of musicians under the banner of one of this country's best loved soul and blues outfits.
The Mighty Reapers were formed by Robert Susz in the late 80s after the split of the Dynamic Hepnotics and have carried on a fine tradition of very funky soul and blues - the type that immediately draws you to the dancefloor. Over the following decades they have recorded a number of much sought after albums, appeared at numerous festivals and on TV shows and opened for international artists such as Gatemouth Brown, B.B. King and Buddy Guy - to name just a few. They also became the band of choice for visiting artists such as Margie Evans, Big Jay McNeely and Bobby Radcliff, touring up and down the East Coast with them.
With guitarist Dave Brewer now living in Perth, it's been difficult to get the band together for Sydney shows, so appearances have been rare over the past few years. Dave is flying in especially for this date and that's just one of the reasons why the coming show should not be missed by anybody looking for a 'funky good time'.
