Trio Gaspard

One of the most dynamic and visionary piano trios to emerge on the European scene in recent years, Trio Gaspard – currently Wigmore Hall’s ensemble in residence – makes its long-awaited Australian debut. Known for their riveting stage presence and compelling interpretations, the trio shares a program that showcases their virtuosic flair, as well as their commitment to furthering the trio genre. Here, Schumann’s sunny F major Trio is paired with music from 1963 by the Hungarian Sándor Veress; and a Haydn Trio converses with a work by the contemporary Swiss-Dutch composer Helena Winkelman, commissioned for Trio Gaspard’s ongoing Haydn Project. With its members hailing from Germany, Greece and the UK – each with busy careers as soloists and chamber musicians – Trio Gaspard speaks with a unique and modern voice: one that makes a convincing case for the piano trio as the most exciting and dynamic of chamber music genres.
