From the global impact of his early groups Not Drowning Waving and My Friend The Chocolate Cake to his ongoing work as a solo artist and soundtrack composer David is renowned as an innovator and a collaborator. His contribution was recognised by The Australia Council’s Don Banks Award in 2019, joining a long list of accolades David has collected across three decades of commitment to his craft and his community.

As a producer Bridie has worked with Christine Anu on her debut album “Stylin Up”; Archie Roach on his acclaimed “Jamu Dreaming” record; as well as projects with Frank Yamma, George Telek, Emily Wurramara and many others.

As a screen composer David has scored numerous international and Australian films, television series and documentaries earning multiple AFI/AACTA and Screen Music awards.

David has been deeply immersed in Melanesian music since 1990 when Not Drowning Waving collaborated with George Telek and the musicians of Rabaul to create the seminal album Tabaran, marking the beginning of David & George’s long friendship and a collaboration that was documented in the film "Abebe Butterfly Song" which featured at the 2023 Melbourne International Film Festival.

David released his sixth solo album in 2023, a collaborative spoken word record featuring 14 writers, and which has been nominated for the Australian Music Prize.
